Working with SOS Children
Unfortunately paid opportunities with SOS Children do not come up very frequently, but if you’d like to help us, you might be able to spare some of your time to volunteer?
Volunteering overseas
In general SOS Children does not send volunteers abroad to work in the children’s villages. Instead, we prefer to use local staff to make use of local knowledge and resources. There are a few reasons for this. Firstly, it is of benefit for the children we care for that they are looked after by people who can offer a long-term commitment, which volunteers rarely can do. This ensures continuity in the lives of the children we care for, and also means they are surrounded by people who speak their own language and are familiar with their culture. By employing local staff, we also make a contribution to the local economy.
Some exceptions are made at the discretion of SOS Children locally in cases where people can offer specialist skills, not readily available in the country.
Volunteering in the UK
We do currently not have any children’s villages in the UK, which means we can not offer any opportunities to volunteer with children here in the UK.
Regional Volunteers
We are always looking for regional volunteers who can help us strengthen the charity’s regional presence. For more information about this, click here.
